Sabrina

When I was 20 years old I got sober. I thought getting sober was going to be the worst thing ever and that the fun was over. But I ended up being able to do everything I used to do.

I mostly have stayed sober because I’ve been happy. I’ve made friends with people who genuinely care about me and they call and ask me how I am.  I’ve never had friends like that.

I was always using them for something or they were using me for something and now I have really nice friends.

Today my life is amazing. I have a job that I love. I graduated college. I have a really good relationship with my family. I have tons of friends. I have some friends that aren’t sober but I can hang out with them. I can do everything that I used to do but I don’t make a fool of myself and I’m not really sad all the time.

Coping Tips:

I talk to people. I ask other people how they’re doing and I try not to think about myself so much.

I do breathing exercises. I started exercising. I write gratitude lists. I try and stay positive.

Have one good person in your life you can be honest with. There’s no better support than talking to someone who’s been through it.
